AI-Driven Orchestration and Safety Engineering for Mixed-Traffic CCAM Systems
Connected, Cooperative and Automated Mobility (CCAM) is transitioning from isolated vehicle automation toward system-level orchestration across mixed traffic environments. While significant advances have been achieved in vehicle autonomy, major scientific and engineering challenges remain in ensuring safe coexistence with conventional vehicles, integrating public digital infrastructure, enabling trustworthy AI-driven traffic management, and aligning deployment with regulatory and societal expectations.
This special session brings together four complementary Horizon Europe projects — CHORUS, CARMONY, CERTAIN and FRODDO — to present an integrated European perspective on the design, validation and orchestration of CCAM ecosystems.
The session will address the full lifecycle of CCAM deployment:
- Operational Design Domain (ODD) modelling and infrastructure compatibility
- Scenario-based safety assurance and in-life validation
- AI-enabled multi-actor orchestration frameworks
- Governance models and simulation-based decision support
- Mixed traffic management involving human-driven and automated vehicles
- Public trust, user acceptance and regulatory alignment
By combining advances in artificial intelligence, cyber-physical systems, traffic engineering and public digital infrastructure management, the session aims to demonstrate how scalable, safe and sustainable CCAM ecosystems can be deployed across European cities and highways.
